Why DigiCert should be your go-to choice for SSL certificates

DigiCert is an industry-leading Certificate Authority that has been on the cutting edge of this industry for years now. Their SSL certificates often feature functionality that no other CA offers - or can offer - and use it to great effect.

DigiCert SSL certificates are, most of all, an incredible value proposition. They're designed and purpose-built to leverage the latest PKI solutions and related SSL/TLS technologies. At the same time, they support all major browsers and operating systems, come with a DigiCert Trust Seal, offer 256-bit encryption, and enjoy the ultimate customer trust in the SSL industry.

Of course, not everyone needs the latest and greatest. For users that just want to secure their website setup, and who don't necessarily collect payments and/or handle highly sensitive information, the DigiCert Standard SSL certificates are more than enough of a security solution.

Powerful encryption comes part-and-parcel with every SSL certificate Digicert provides (256-bit encryption, specifically), as well as the reassuring lock icon in the browsers' address bar. Combined with the DigiCert Site Seal, this signals the fact that your website's been secured by a world-class TLS/SSL solution.

This is your chance to get an industry-leading CA to encrypt your website and protect sensitive data

DigiCert Standard/Basic SSL is the entry-level Certificate from DigiCert, featured as part of their 'Basic' SSL lineup. Regardless, don't expect any compromises on features and security. Even DigiCert's simplest SSL certificate features a Site Seal and 256-bit encryption. Both are must-haves in this day and age.

The Standard DigiCert SSL certificate offers a comprehensive security suite to safe-keep your website and your customers. It can be installed on blogs, info sites, mail servers, or your main business website if you prefer. This DigiCert SSL certificate also comes with one of the highest levels of warranty to back it up ($1,250,000).

All of these features come together to establish a baseline SSL/TLS security experience that's not easily matched by other Certificate Authorities. Even just a Site Seal from DigiCert often improves users' long-term conversions via the improved sense of security it affords. This makes DigiCert SSL certificates particularly valuable for every user bracket on the market.

Let everyone know that you're protected by a top-grade DigiCert Standard/Basic SSL certificate

When anyone visits your website that has DigiCert Standard SSL in place, they will immediately be presented with a secure padlock icon in their browsers. You can also install the included DigiCert Trust Seal for additional visual security verification. If a user clicks on the Site Seal, a window will open, showing your verified business information. This plainly shows that your business is established and in good standing with the appropriate authorities.

Managing certificates has never been this easy - especially such high-end certificates, to boot. With stellar browser compatibility being a given, DigiCert's SSL products offer every security feature you could wish for - often as part of a single certificate.

The key features to look out for differ from one specific SSL certificate to another, of course - even among the Basic offerings. To that end, you may wish to check out the Wildcard SSL or, perhaps an Extended Validation solution for your particular setup. For most users, however, the Standard setup option will offer everything they need.

DigiCert SSL certificates provide extra benefits for all users across all products

One additional benefit of purchasing your security solutions from the DigiCert Certificate Authority is that you get to use their streamlined business verification process. No other CA can have your SSL issued within minutes with Business Verification involved.

Better yet; once you have completed this process, you can have additional orders issued instantly in the future. This means that your certificate signing request will only take a bit longer the first time that DigiCert needs to verify your details. Every subsequent issuance will be significantly faster than the first one.

It's particularly noteworthy that DigiCert also offers free reissues for all of their SSL/TLS solutions across the board. This means that users can request multiple instances of their already issued certificates, so as to implement them across separate server setups simultaneously. The only downside to this, of course, is that you'll be using the same private key across all servers, but it does save time and protect your company name across the board. Almost no other CAs offer free reissues!

Recommended for an extremely wide variety of use-cases

Secure your root domain name with the www-version also secured for free with DigiCert Standard SSL certificates. Install your certificate on unlimited servers, making it downright perfect for reverse proxies, load balancers, multi-location setups, and heaps more. On top of that, you can enjoy the added reassurance of being able to do unlimited reissued if you need to get a new DigiCert SSL certificate issued fast.

Recommended use-cases include - but are not limited to - personal and/or business blogs, informational websites, communication and e-mail servers, and business websites. Note that payment processor implementations and sensitive data security may require a slightly more robust DigiCert offering, such as a Wildcard SSL certificate, an Extended Validation or Organization Validation SSL, or even a DigiCert Code-Signing certificate. Digicert's Secure Site SSL lineup might be the better choice in these cases, too.

For the vast majority of users, however, the Basic/Standard SSL certificates will be more than enough to secure the entirety of their domain setup. 256-bit encryption is an SSL DigiCert standard feature, after all, and you're getting this particular feature no matter what!

Fast and easy authentication for all user profiles

A particularly important DigiCert boon is that they offer one of the best authentication and verification processes on the market. With a fully streamlined identity verification process, the vast majority of users will have their SSL DigiCert issued within just minutes of requesting it, and the site protected as quickly as possible.

DigiCert makes the whole validation process as easy as it possibly could be because they understand the importance of fast digital signature issuance. When you realize that you need an SSL certificate, it's in everyone's interest to get your base domain neat and secure quickly. Even if you don't decide to splurge on a DigiCert Secure Site SSL, this CA will do everything in its power to get you and your one domain or multi-domain setup rapidly up to speed.

DigiCert Basic SSL FAQ

DigiCert Basic SSL is the CA's answer to the market's request for a comprehensive suite of simple, easy-to-use, and quick-to-issue SSL certificates. These are equipped with all the important security features you want out of an SSL/TLS solution, come with trademark DigiCert Site Seal items and other assorted goodies, and enjoy a significantly more competitive price-point than DigiCert's higher-end SSLs do.

Nowadays, there's no actual difference between SSL and TLS in a practical sense. All modern CAs - including DigiCert - actually use TLS (Transport Layer Security) in lieu of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), but the two security technologies are intertwined, and the terminology has remained the same since the original days of SSL security. That's why we use SSL/TLS to refer to certificate solutions in some cases.

DigiCert Standard/Basic certificates are more than enough for virtually all regular website setups on the Internet. The company's Basic Extended Validation and Wildcard SSL options are available for more specific setups, as well as the Multi-Domain options, but they'll do the trick just fine for most users. Sites that feature payment processor functionality and/or handle sensitive data may wish to opt for a Secure Site or Secure Site Pro option from DigiCert, however.

Yes, you can use a DigiCert SSL certificate on a Multi-Domain setup. In fact, there's a dedicated Multi-Domain Basic certificate available right off the bat. That being said, it's important to keep in mind that some users won't even need to splurge for a Multi-Domain certificate: DigiCert offers unlimited free reissues for all of their SSL products, which will be sufficient to secure your entire setup in many cases.

Yes - DigiCert does offer a Basic Wildcard SSL certificate for users that need to secure their main domain and a number of extra sub-domains, too. Wildcard certificates are purpose-built to keep your sub-domains safe alongside the main domain, and they should be the go-to option if you know for a fact that you need to encrypt both the main domain and its sub-domains in one go.

As the name implies, the Flexi certificates from DigiCert offer an additional flexibility layer on top of their already impressive customization features. Namely, Flexi certificates allow users to add additional SANs to the basic SSL certificate setup they started off with - during the certificate's lifetime, without needing to request a modified re-issue. Flexi certificates are a great option for users that aim to grow the number of domains they have in place.
